2010 Track Champions Crowned at Boone Speedway

The regular season of racing wrapped up on Saturday night at the Boone Speedway with five drivers adding their names to the list of track champions.  Driver introductions on the track in front of the grandstand, allowed fans to salute their favorite drivers as well.

The Dwarf/Mod Lite feature found the track champion also winning tonight’s A main.  Josh May successfully held off the advances of Charlie Brown and took the checkers first.  Following Brown, who took second, was the #8 car of Dusty Masolini, fourth would go to James May, and fifth was Tim Hennigar.  Josh May was also the 2010 track champion in the Dwarf/Mod Lite division.

The IMCA Northern SportMods took to the track next.  All divisions tonight had their starting line up determined by points which gave the pole sitter spot to Scott Davis.  Davis kept distance between himself and any challengers the entire race; taking the win and also the track championship.  Jeremy Embrey tailed Davis for most of the race but Eric Elliott was able to pass Embrey on the white flag lap as they finished in second and third respectively.  Fourth went to Geoff Olson and Tim Love rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Modifieds ran next with Cale Sponsler leading the pack from the get go and Jimmy Gustin right behind.  The closing laps saw Sponsler pull away for the win with Gustin having to settle for the runner up position.  Kelly Lyons finished in third, Jake Dubin was fourth and Russ Dickerson finished in fifth.  Jake Durbin was the 2010 track champion.

A good battle ensued between point leader Donavon Smith and Alan VanGorp in the IMCA Stock Car A main as they ran 1-2 the entire race.  Smith took the victory over VanGorp with Rod Richards finishing third, fourth went to Wayne Gifford and Mike VanGenderen came from starting thirteenth, to finish in the fifth position.  Donavon Smith took the 2010 track championship.

The final feature of the night, the IMCA Hobby Stock class, was the closest battle for determining the track champion.  Michael Murphy held only a two point lead over Pat Mather and the two would be starting on the front row side-by-side.  Mather got the advantage at the drop of the green and Murphy settled into second–content to ride in that postion for the duration of the race.  Pat Mather won the race, but Murphy won the track championship. Following Murphy in his second place position, was veteran Randy Embrey taking third, fourth was Cody Gustoff and Donnie Gustoff took fifth.

This concluded the 2010 race season at the Boone Speedway, but not the end of racing at the track for this year.
