Three feature winners before Mother Nature wins

May 21, 2011

The Boone Speedway was able to crown three feature winners before Mother Nature came calling this past Saturday night.  The evening started with the running of the hobby stock make up feature from last week’s wash out and the program quickly continued right into the regular heat action from there.

Michael Murphy got  back into victory lane, taking the make-up IMCA hobby stock feature.  Cory Adams trailed Murphy across the finish line to nab the runner up spot.  Curt Reed was scored in third place, fourth went to Tyler Pickett and fifth to Aaron Rudolph. This was Murphy’s fourth feature win of the 2011 season.

The heat races in the five divisions were quickly run and with the radar showing rain approaching from the southwest, the usual farming session was eliminated and the feature events were lined up.

The MADCRA Mod Lite feature pulled onto the track for their 15-lap race as the sky began to grow darker.  Last week’s winner, Colby Oberembt pushed his ride to the front early only to have twelveth place starter, Josh May snatch the lead away with only a handful of laps in the books.  May appeared to be on his way to an easy victory but Tim Hennigar made it close at the finish line, but came up a bit short.  May took the win, his second of the year at the track, with Hennigar taking the runner up position.  Third went to Dusty Masolini, Colby Oberembt hung on to a fourth place finish, and Charlie Brown rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Northern SportMods came to the track next for the running of their 18-lap feature.  All 27 cars on hand tonight, started the A main.  Randy Roberts got to the front by the halfway mark after starting back in row five and left the cars doing battle behind him.  Roberts would go on to take the win as a wild finish ensued behind him for position!  Racer Hulin took second, Geoff Olson got third, fourth went to Beau Kaplan and Eric Elliott was fifth.

Rain began to fall at the finish of the SportMod feature, the wind came up, the lightning flashed, and Mother Nature won out.  Next week’s races will begin with make up features for the IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, and the IMCA hobby stocks.  It will also be Scout Night at the races.  There will be free admission to area scouts and troop leaders in full uniform.  Make plans to attend.
