Lyons takes the lion’s share at Boone

Another warm night awaited the fans at the Boone Speedway for more exciting racing action on Saturday night.  First time winners came out of the Modified and Mod Lite classes, while the Stock Cars, SportMods and Hobby Stocks all saw returning faces to victory lane.

Joel Keenan was one of the first time winner’s this year when he took the 15-lap Mod-Lite A main win.  Keenan was challenged by  Andy Hennigar in the latter laps, but held him off to seal his win.  Hennigar finished second ahead of  point leader Josh May in third, Ed Zehm in fourth and Jason Whitehead in fifth.

In the IMCA Northern SportMod feature, it was Daniel Tasler chalking up his second win of the season.  Tasler dominated in his performance, winning by a comfortable margin over Lynn Brockett.  Eric Elliott finished close behind Brockett to nab third place, fourth went to Geoff Olson who came from starting eleventh, and veteran Rick Ringgenberg captured a fifth place finish.

At the end of the IMCA modified 20-lap feature, it was Kelly Lyons taking his first victory of the year at the Boone Speedway. Lyons led all laps on his way to the checkers.  Jimmy Gustin  took the runner up position over Mike VanGenderen in third, Josh Gilman in fourth and Bill

The IMCA stock cars put on their usual door-to-door action.  Jay Schmidt powered to the lead by lap seven from starting back in fourteenth place, but abruptly left the track with what appeared to be a flat tire, giving the lead over to Trent Murphy.  Murphy had clear sailing the rest of the way to the checkers. Donovan Smith came home in second,  Ty Hill finished in third, Eric Brown in fourth and Jerry Gifford was fifth.  This was Murphy’s second win of the season.

John Watson took his fifth regular season win in the IMCA hobby stock division.  Watson over took earlier leader Tyler Pickett with just two laps remaining,  and claimed the win.  Pickett had to settle for second over Aaron Rudolph in third, Michael Murphy in fourth and Dean Hartwig in fifth.

Weekly point racing continues next Saturday at the Boone Speedway.  Hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 and racing at 7:30.
