At last count, 49 Mach-1 Sport Compacts had gone through tech inspection. Six heats and three “B” features will set the field for the division’s first Super Nationals main event this evening.

Among the entries is Mankato, Minn.’s Nate Coopman, the national point leader and top rookie driver in standings coming to Boone. Also of note, his father Jerry raced in the Stock Car division at Super Nationals on three occasions.

“I’m used to the bigger tracks,” admitted Coopman, a weekend regular at Murray County Speedway, Arlington Raceway and Redwood Speedway. “We wanted to come here and have fun and hopefully make it into the feature.”

He’d raced in the hornet class at Fairmont before making the move to a Sport Compact. His travels this season included a trip to Benton County Speedway, home o the first-ever Super Nationals.
