BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7) – A record 842 drivers are on entry lists for the 29th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.
Two hundred and fifty-three Modified drivers and 179 Stock Car drivers were on rosters released prior to their first qualifying events today (Wednesday) at Boone Speedway.
Another late entry on Tuesday put the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod count at 186, another record for that division. Car count for the Hobby Stocks was 137.
Mach-1 Sport Compacts brought 49 cars to town for their first Super Nationals appearance. Thirty-eight Late Models saw action in Monday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series event.
The previous event record of 825 was established in 2008; this is the fourth straight year Super Nationals has topped the 800 mark.
“”We expected strong numbers based on the number of pre-entries and the history of the event,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root noted. “This is the premier dirt track race in the United States. The support we get from drivers continues to prove that and our Saturday night main event is guaranteed to be some of the best racing a dirt track fan will ever see. We don’t just have the most cars, we have the best drivers.”
