Action continued at the Boone Speedway Saturday night with regular points racing in all five classes. Four new winners were placed in the books, but the Hobby Stock class saw a several-time winner repeat again.
The Mod Lite feature was led by Joel Huggins through the halfway mark of the 15-lap A main event. Bad luck would grab Huggins after a restart, when he lost the handle in turn four and Mike Kennedy clipped him and ended up on his side, ending both their runs to the front. The restart put Josh May to the lead, stretching it out for the win. Jeff Stensland finished second, Randy Bryan took third followed by Dusty Masolini and Joel Keenan in fourth and fifth.
Nick Roberts brought it home for the win in the Imca Northern SportMod class. Roberts took the lead from polesitter Darren Huntley, keeping the lead even after several restart situations. Eric Elliott came from starting twelfth to take the runnerup spot. Huntley held on for third, fourth went to Cody Hennings and fifth to David Schlicht.
Todd Shute took a dominating win in the Imca Modified 20-lapper. Shute pulled away from his nearest competitors. Jake
Durbin finished a distant second, having run behind Shute the entire race. Jimmy Gustin was able to take advantage of a restart, and pass Mike VanGenderen late in the race as they finished third and fourth. Gustin flew through the pack after tagging the field due to pitting for a tire change. Jon Snyder came from starting near the back of the field to take fifth place.
The Imca Stock Car 18-lap main saw some intense battling up front between Eric Brown and Cory Bushnell. The two raced closely the entire feature with Brown getting the hard fought victory this night, Bushnell having to settle for second. Donavon Smith finished a close third over Jay Schmidt in fourth followed by Wayne Gifford who rounded out the top five.
It was John Watson back in his familiar winner’s spot in the Imca Hobby Stock feature. Watson was leading by lap four from his sixth row starting spot. Several yellow flags and ensuing restarts didn’t bother Watson as he took another win, his third of the regular season, and the Frostbuster win in addition. Austin Luellen came from row five to score second, third went to Aaron Rudolph, fourth to Matt McDonald and fifth to Curt Reed.
Next Saturday, May 26th, will be another night of exciting racing action in all five divisions. Make plans to attend.
