Two drivers went home with back-to-back wins on Saturday night at the Boone Speedway. It was a night that saw it’s share of yellow flags flying and two features ended under the yellow-checkered.
The Mod Lite feature was decided on a last corner pass. Mike Kennedy was looking to take the win, having led the last handful of laps. Then a late red flag brought the action to a halt, when Josh May tipped over. The restart bunched the field for the final circuits setting up a shootout between Kennedy and Ed Zehm. Zehm made it work and passed Kennedy on the last corner. Third went to Mike Morrill, who had started twelfth, fourth was Jeff Stensland and fifth was Andy Hennigar. This was Zehm’s first win of the year at the track.
The IMCA Northern SportMod feature saw an exciting finish when the winner was decided with a pass on the backstretch of the final lap. Eric Elliot nosed past Daniel Tasler, as they finished first and second. This was Elliott’s first win at Boone this year. Early leader Anthony Onstot held on for a third place finish, fourth was Andy Tiernan and fifth, Cory Rose.
The IMCA Modified feature had a driver back in victory lane for the second week in a row. It was a hard fought battle between Jake Durbin and Todd Shute. Shute powered past Durbin to take the repeat win, Durbin having to settle for the runner up spot this night. Jimmy Gustin ran out of laps to garner more than third from starting back in the eighth row, fourth was Russ Dickerson, and Mike VanGenderen, who also came out row eight, was scored in fifth.
Mike Munson led the entire IMCA Stock Car feature, taking his first win at the speedway this season. This race would end under the yellow-checkered after the white flag had flown. Wayne Gifford had battled with Munson the last laps, but the yellow would end his final challenge and the race was called completed. Following Gifford’s second place finish was Donavon Smith in third, Rod Richards was fourth and Norm Belew in fifth.
The racing action finished up with the IMCA Hobby Stock A main. The winner in this one also repeated from last week. John Watson has become very familiar with victory lane at the BooneSpeedway and once again found himself standing there. Watson came from row six to the lead by lap five in the yellow flag plagued feature. Aaron Rudolph finished second ahead of Curt Reed, Cory Adams and Clint Rothfus.
