Cookies Sauce and Seasonings of Wall Lake, Iowa, will be presenting the first 24 car show entries with their famous “Wings and Things” hot wings kit.

P1 Promotions will award the Best of Show winner a customized marketing package to help that driver with potential sponsors. In addition, the Best of Show winner will receive a free pit pass for that evening’s event, courtesy of Boone Speedway.

“We dodged the rain for the Frostbuster and we dodged the rain last week,” stated promoter Robert Lawton. “Hopefully, we can do it again this weekend.”

Boone Speedway, along with 34 Raceway in Burlington, are the only tracks in the state to complete every scheduled event through the middle of April.

After holding its annual season-opening Frostbuster event on April 6, the speedway got its weekly points season underway on April 13. It looks to get its first three programs of the season in the books with the second night of weekly racing on Saturday, April 20.

Todd Shute won the April 13 points opener in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division, while Damon Murty was the winner among 35 entries in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.

Eric Elliott bested a field of 43 Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods to take the early points lead and Austin Luellen won the Picketts Salvage IMCA Hobby Stock feature April 13. Andy Hennigar was the opening night winner in the Mod Lite division.

Due to cool temperatures, start times at the speedway have been pushed up for the month of April. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and grandstands at 3. Hot laps are scheduled for 4, with racing to begin at 5.

With cooler than normal temperatures and lingering winter conditions, track workers are keeping an eye on the weather and hoping to get the April 6 event in without a hitch.

Part of those preparations have included repairing the well-known jet dryer that suffered engine problems during last September’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. Promoter Robert Lawton traveled across the country to Las Vegas to purchase a new jet motor for the ailing machine.

The April 6 event is scheduled to include IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods and Hobby Stocks. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. on race day, with hot laps scheduled for 4 and the first green flag of the season to wave at 5.

AMSOIL, the title sponsor for the IMCA Modified division in 2013, will also sponsor one race team in each class for the upcoming season. According to independent AMSOIL dealer Rob Brown, “Those drivers will be able to purchase products at cost and will receive free oil and lubricants.”

In addition, a contingency program will be in place for all drivers in all divisions who display the AMSOIL decal on their race cars.

Drivers taking part in the contingency program will be able to purchase AMSOIL products at cost, which is approximately half the retail price. Brown added, “In addition to the discount pricing on all racing oil, fuel additives, air filters, oil filters and fuel filters, T-shirts will be available to those drivers in the contingency program.”

The contingency program will pay a $500 end-of-season bonus in each division. The AMSOIL driver who finishes highest in points in each division will receive $250. Second place will receive $150 and third place $100. Drivers must compete in at least half the season and display the AMSOIL decal to be eligible for the bonus.

An AMSOIL sponsored race night is also slated for July. The company plans to involve a youth or charity group to get kids involved at the track. Along with the sponsored race night, AMSOIL will be the title sponsor of the Racing Rascals, Boone Speedway’s kids club.
