The Boone Speedway held it’s third night of regular season points racing on Saturday night. One driver was back in his familiar spot in victory lane, while all other classes found winners for the first time this year. It was also a night when all the mothers were honored by being handed a red carnation for Mother’s Day, as they passed through the grandstand gates.

The first feature was the Mod Lite division . Bryan Zehm dominated the entire race on the way to his victory. Joel Keenan chased him across the finish line to take second. Randy Bryan came from the sixth row to take third over Ed Zehm and Andy Hennigar started in row twelve to score fifth.

The IMCA Northern SportMod winner stepped into victory lane for the first time this year. Brian Miller led the entire 18-lap event. He fended off the late race challenges of Scott Davis, even after several restart situations caused by the yellow flying. Davis was scored in second followed by Randy Roberts, Eric Elliott and Jerry Hinton.

Earlier in the evening, after the SportMod heats, a special King of the Hill for this class was run. The first and second place finishers from the heats were involved. The final two remaining cars were Eric Elliot versus Scott Davis. Elliott was the victor.

The IMCA Modified feature was an eventual walk away. Jimmy Gustin passed leader Jon Snyder and pulled away for his first win at

Boone this year. Snyder was a distant second, veteran Denny Rosenberger took third place and Russ Dickerson and Mike VanGenderen finished fourth and fifth.

The IMCA Stock Car feature found another new winner to place in the books. Jay Schmidt took the lead from Cory Bushnell by lap five, never to relinquish it. Bushnell fought hard at the final run to the checkers but had to settle for runner up. Wayne Gifford came from starting in fifteenth to capture third. Donavon Smith made it into the fourth place from starting in row nine and Gary Bass put his car on the topside to nab fifth from starting in row six.

Right before the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, the youngsters were invited to hop in their favorite Hobby Stock driver’s car, for a circuit around the track. The 12-lap race followed and this one left little doubt after lap five who the winner would be. John Watson grabbed tbe lead from Cory Adams at that lap five, pulled away and took another win. Watson, who has seen many wins over the past couple of years took the win over Adams. Third was Eric Stanton who started in row six, Austin Luellen was fourth and Aaron Roudolph, fifth.

Next Saturday night, May 19, has been designated a Super Saver Special. Bring the family and get four tickets, hot dogs and Pepsi for $30, if you arrive before 6:30. Grandstands open at 6, hot laps are 6:45 and racing at 7:30.

Racing action continued at Boone Speedway on Saturday night for night two of regular points competition in all five divisions. Pleasant weather was welcomed by fans and drivers alike on a night when all those age 17 and under received free grandstand admission.

Feature racing started off with the Mod Lite division. Bryan Zehm led the pack in the early laps, but Mike Morrill came charging through the field from starting twelfth to snatch the lead by lap eleven. Morrill pulled away to take the win. Zehm followed in second. Mike Kennedy finished third with Josh May and Joel Keenan finishing fourth and fifth.

The 18-lap IMCA SportMod feature went flag to flag as Randy Roberts won in convincing fashion. Jerry Hinton was scored in second and after getting the pack of cars sorted out behind him, it was Cody Hennings taking third, over Clint Luellen and Nick Roberts who finished fourth and fifth in that order.

The IMCA modifieds followed up with their own caution free main event . Jon Snyder and Mike VanGenderen put the

show on up front, swapping the lead several times. Snyder topped this one in the end with VanGenderen a close second. Jimmy Gustin came from twelfth starting spot to take third. Fourth place went to Josh Gilman and fifth was Russ Dickerson.

The 18-lap IMCA stock car A main went to Jerry Gifford. Gifford got to the front early on and pulled away for the win. Veteran driver, Robert Stofer finished in second place, and the winner’s brother, Wayne Gifford came from the fourth row to finish third. Fourth went to Trent Murphy, and Jay Schmidt rounded out the top five.

Closing out the night’s racing action was the IMCA hobby stock feature. This was all a two man race up front between Austin Luellen and John Watson. Watson chased Luellen the entire distance, waiting for a small slip up, which never came. Luellen took the win over Watson, followed by Brandon Brinton in third, Aaron Rudolph in fourth and Matt McDonald in fifth.

Next Saturday night, May 12, will be a Mother’s Day Special and car rides for the kids at the Speedway. Hot laps are 6:45 and racing at 7:30.

April 28, 2012

It took the third week of trying before the season opener of regular points racing took place at the Boone Speedway. With more rain falling in recent days, it was the good drainage system and great track prep that proved to be the determining factor in allowing the show to go on as scheduled. Fans came prepared to fight off the chill of the stiff east wind and damp overcast conditions and were rewarded with exciting racing action.

The Mod Lite feature went to Andy Hennigar. Hennigar was dueling it out with leader Randy Bryan for most of the race and was only able to make the pass for the win as the two came to the checkers. Third place went to Josh May, fourth to Mike Kennedy and fifth was Jason Whitehead

The IMCA Northern SportMod feature was up next. This A main event’s starting lineup had to be completed by running two B features. Those consy wins went to Tom Burke and Randy Roberts. Mike Pruitt took command from the get go in this one and went on to score the win. Scott Davis challenged but had to settle for second. Third went to Jason Mallicoat, fourth to Minnesota driver Bruce Egeland, and fifth to David Schlicht.

The 20-lap IMCA modified feature event went to Luke Wanninger who dominated in this one, maintaining his lead even after several restart situations caused by the yellow flag flying. Jimmy Gustin followed in second place, with Jake Durbin in third, fourth was Joel Bushore and Kelly Lyons was fifth.

It was the 18-lap IMCA stock car A main next, after its lineup was also completed by the running of a B main. Gary Bass won that consy event. Michael Jaennette and Alan VanGorp put on the show up front with Jaennette eventually getting some breathing room from his contender and then on to the win. VanGorp was the runner up with Gary Bass, Ryan Rose and Donavon Smith making for an entertaining third through fifth finish respectively.

John Watson put another notch in his belt at the Boone Speedway in the IMCA hobby stock feature. Watson enjoyed a successful season last year at the track, and earlier this year, won the Frostbuster special. Curt Reed, who started along side Watson on the front row,

John Watson took top spot in the IMCA Hobby Stock division at Boone Speedway on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

motored to a second place finish. Third was Justin Nehring from Storm Lake, fourth was Aaron Rudolph, and fifth, Carl Knight.

Join us back at the Boone Speedway next Saturday night, May 5 for another exciting night of regular points racing in all divisions. Hot laps are 6:45 with racing at 7:30. Free admission for those 17 and under!

The IMCA 25-lap feature had an exciting finish and the crowd on its feet. Jay Noteboom, had led much of the race with Mark Elliott trying in vain to catch him. Noteboom took the white flag and looking for victory, but Elliott had other ideas. Elliott was able to pull off the pass in corners three and four, beating Noteboom to the checkers. Jimmy Gustin finished a close third and veteran NASCAR driver Ken Schrader, Concord, NC, was fourth. Vinton, Iowa’s Scott Hogan completed the top five.

The IMCA stock cars ran a 20-lap feature. No stranger to victory lane, Donovan Smith, took home yet another win. He won by a comfortable margin over Wisconsin’s Brandon Czarapata. Michael Jaennette was third, Steve Meyer fourth, and fifth went to Trent Murphy.

The finale of the night was the 15-lap IMCA hobby stock feature. John Watson went home the victor in this one, repeating his Frostbuster win from a year ago. Veteran driver Randy Embrey was second, Brandon Brinton third, Chris Jensen fourth, and Nebraska driver, Adam Armstrong, rounded out the top five.

Boone Speedway beings its regular weekly season next Saturday night, April 14. The IMCA modifieds, stock cars, sportmods and hobby stocks along with the mod-lites will be competing. Hot laps at 6:45, racing at 7.
