Last corner pass gives win to Elliott

The Boone Speedway opened its doors for the first time this past Saturday night with the running of their annual Frostbuster special.  Drivers from many states and Canada came to compete, giving the fans some exciting racing action.

Mark Elliott in Victory Lane

Mark Elliott was the IMCA Modified champion at the Boone Speedway Frostbuster on Saturday, April 7, 2012.

The IMCA Northern SportMods ran their 20-lap feature first.  Nick Roberts had little challenges in taking home the win.  Joel Rust  took the runner up spot, with Austin Lucas in third.  Fourth went to Kansas driver and defending IMCA national champion in the division, Bryan LaRiviere.  Tracy Wassenberg, a former Super Nationals champion, was fifth.

The IMCA 25-lap feature had an exciting finish and the crowd on its feet.  Jay Noteboom,  had led much of the race with Mark Elliott trying in vain to catch him.  Noteboom took the white flag and looking for victory, but Elliott had other ideas.  Elliott was able to pull off the pass in corners three and four, beating Noteboom to the checkers. Jimmy Gustin finished a close third and veteran NASCAR driver Ken Schrader, Concord, NC, was fourth.  Vinton, Iowa’s Scott Hogan completed the top five.

The IMCA stock cars ran a 20-lap feature.  No stranger to victory lane, Donovan Smith, took home yet another win.  He won by a comfortable margin over Wisconsin’s Brandon Czarapata.  Michael Jaennette was third, Steve Meyer fourth, and fifth went to Trent Murphy.

The finale of the night was the 15-lap IMCA hobby stock feature.  John Watson went home the victor in this one, repeating his Frostbuster win from a year ago.  Veteran driver Randy Embrey was second, Brandon Brinton third, Chris Jensen fourth, and Nebraska driver, Adam Armstrong, rounded out the top five.

Boone Speedway beings its regular weekly season next Saturday night, April 14.   The IMCA modifieds, stock cars, sportmods and hobby stocks along with the mod-lites will be competing.  Hot laps at 6:45, racing at 7.
