Scott, Rose, Gifford, Lograsso and Zehm Win at Boone
For the 14th straight week, Boone Speedway completed it's racing program, but once again storm clouds and lightning were observed to the north. The SportMods and Modifieds both had new winners, while the Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Dwarfs saw familiar faces in Victory Lane.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite feature saw Ed Zehm repeat his win from last week. Charlie Brown led all but the final lap when Ed Zehm made the pass on the outside to take the win. Following Brown for third was Randy Bryan who had started back in twelveth, fourth went to Colby Oberembt, and fifth was Josh May, coming from thirteenth starting spot.
The IMCA Northern SportMods took to the track next for their main event. After making his first appearance of the year last week, Cory Rose, rose to the occasion as he took advantage of his pole starting postion and took command. Rose would lead the entire race to take the checkers first. Following Rose across the line in second was Rick Ringgenberg, third went to Darren Huntley, fourth to Jared Timmerman and fifth was Scott Davis
Twenty-one IMCA modifieds were on hand and all took the green flag for their feature. J. J. Scott took his first win at the speedway this year as he distanced himself from those fighting for position behind him. Todd Shute ran the topside to motor around Daniel Hilsabeck in the closing laps as they finished second and third respectively. Kelly Lyons finished a close fourth, fifth was Luke Wanninger as Jimmy Gustin closed in to take sixth.
The stock car feature winner was Wayne Gifford as he scored his second win of the year at the track. Second place went to Donavon Smith and third went to Jay Schmidt – though he crossed the line in first. Schmidt was docked two spots for a jump on a restart and with the race continuing under green, did not have the opportunity to correct the situation. Fourth place went to Trent Murphy and fifth was Kevin Shaw.
The hobby stock feature ended the night's events as lighting showed to the west and north of the track. Montezuma, Iowa driver, Michael Peterson led the first few laps until Scott Lograsso powered his way to the front and into the lead. Lograsso came from starting tenth, to take a comfortable win. Second place finisher was Michael Murphy who had also distanced himself from the third place car of Michael Peterson. Fourth place was Austin Luellen and fifth went to Darin Rothfus.
Next Saturday, July 3rd, is another weekly point event at the track and on Sunday, July 4th, will be the 4th annual Eve of Destruction. A huge fireworks display is also planned and the IMCA Northern SportMods will be racing a non-points race.
