Tasler repeats in Sportmods, Watson in hobby stocks

July 30, 2011

The Boone Speedway saw repeat winners from last week in the SportMod and Hobby Stock classes, a first time winner for 2011 in the Dwarf/Mod Lite division, and the Modified and Stock Car classes each returned winners from earlier this year.

Joel Huggins took the lead on lap two of the 15-lap Dwarf/Mod Lite feature and captured his first win at the track in 2011.  Andy Hennigar was able to make the pass on Jason Whitehead with just a few laps to go as they finished second and third respectively.  Travis Stensland took the fourth position and last week’s winner, Joel Keenan rounded out the top five.  The race went caution free.

The 18-lap IMCA Northern SportMod feature went to Daniel Tasler for the second week in a row.  Tasler caught and passed Tara Longnecker on lap ten to take the lead and cruised to the repeat win. Tasler  had also won back

Daniel Tasler

Daniel Tasler took top spot in the IMCA SportMods at Boone Speedway for the second week in a row on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

in late April, making this his third victory on the year.  Geoff Olson had a strong run, coming from eleventh to capture second, third went to Eric Elliott, fourth to Clint Luellen and point leader Scott Davis finished in fifth.  Longnecker, the early race leader finished in sixth.

The IMCA Stock Cars ran their 18-lap main event next.  Josh Daniels led the charge from his pole starting position until lap seventeen when Jerry Gifford nosed past him to take the number one spot.  Daniels gave it a last ditch effort right at the finish line, but fell a bit short and had to be content with the runner up spot.  For Gifford, this was his third win this season.  Third place went to Robert Stofer who out battled Wayne Gifford  who finished fourth.  Jay Schmidt came from starting back in eighteenth, to finish fifth.

After 20 laps of the IMCA Modified feature, it was Randy Havlik sitting in the winner’s circle for the third time this year.  Jimmy Gustin chased Havlik across the line to finish in the runner up spot.  Josh Gilman finished a close third, followed by Russ Dickerson in fourth and Jake Durbin in fifth.

The 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature concluded the evening’s racing.  It was no stranger visiting victory lane, as John Watson claimed his sixth regular season win and repeating from last week.  First-timer at the track this year, Scott Pippert made a gallant effort to overtake Watson, but would fall a bit short at the checkers, and had to settle for second.  Scott Lograsso advanced through the pack from starting fifteenth, to take the third spot, Michael Murphy came from qualifying through the B main to take fourth, and Matt McDonald finished in fifth.

The season is quickly winding down, but there is still plenty of racing action to be found at the Boone Speedway.  Next Saturday night, August 6th, all five classes will once again be racing for points. The youngsters can also get in on the action and climb aboard a cardboard racer in hopes of taking a checkered flag. Grandstands open at 6 p.m., hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing at 7:30.
