Tweak gives fans louder voice in All-Star selection

BOONE, Iowa – An expanded field and a tweaking of the voting process will give race fans a louder voice in the selection of the starting field for the Friday, Sept. 9 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.

Voting will be conducted from June 1 to Aug. 1 through the IMCA website: Ballots, which can be cast daily, must include votes for 18 IMCA Modified drivers regardless of which region they reside in.

Drivers with the top two vote totals from each of the five regions, and the next eight drivers regardless  of home region will start the $1,000 to win, 20-lap special during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nation als fueled by Cenex.

Completing the 20-car field will be IMCA’s wildcard provisionals, the highest driver in national point standings and then the top driver in total feature wins as of Sept. 2 in attendance at Boone Speedway.

Their numbers of feature wins will be the tie breaker if two or more drivers are tied for the national point standing provisional; second-place finishes will break any ties for the All-Star spot determined by feature wins.

“We’ve recently been asking fans to vote for two drivers from each region. After expanding the All-Star field from 10 to 12 cars last year and to 20 this year, it’s only fair that we make a change in the process that allows them to vote for more of their favorite drivers,” explained IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root

The more than 90 candidates already on the All-Star ballot include last year’s regional and state champi ons, and the winners of events that paid $1,000 or more held from June of 2010 through May 31, 2011.

Provisional starters will be announced on Wednesday, Sept. 7, the first day of qualifying for Modifieds at Super Nationals.

The eighth annual invitational is a qualifying event, for the 2012 All-Star ballot.
