Up-to-date with DeVilbiss
What’s life been like lately for defending national Modified champion Zane DeVilbiss?
“Where do you want to start?” he replied.
The Farmington, N.M., pilot picked up his 20th feature win of the season Sunday at Aztec Speedway, headed home to rebuild his motor on Monday, got on the road for Boone late Tuesday, got to the track mid-afternoon Wednesday, put the wrap on, went through tech in the infield and dropped a valve three laps into his heat race.
“The car was awesome, but we always seem to have bad luck our first or second day at Boone,” he said.
A starter in Friday’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, he’s had several offers to loan motors but was looking to repair his own Thursday afternoon.
Already champion of the Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge Series, he’ll head back west for the final EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour doubleheader at Atomic Motor Raceway in Idaho Sept. 16-17, then to Desert Thunder Raceway in Utah for the Castle Country Clash on the final weekend of the point season Sept. 23-24.
“I think we’ve already traveled more miles this year than we did last year,” DeVilbiss said. “We’re pushing 55,000 now.”
