Harris Clash sees Braaksma, Sachau, and Reynolds in Victory Lane
Tuesday Night was action packed at the Boone Speedway for the 34th running of the Harris Clash. Three classes which included the IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, and Stock Cars filled the grounds of Iowa’s Action Track with 231 cars in attendance.
The newest editions were the IMCA Stock Cars as they made their inaugural appearance at the Clash. They came in grand fashion as the Stock Cars led the charge on car count for the night. The unique format for the one-day event had each heat race winner automatically locking into the A-Mains with the highest points earner in each heat race also locking into the main. Stock Cars and Sport Mods saw eight heat races while the IMCA Modifieds saw nine.
The first feature event to the speedway were the IMCA Stock Cars. Former King of the Katwalks champion Kaden Reynolds jumped to the early race lead from the outside of the front row. It was smooth sailing from the drop of the green flag for the Cedar Rapids native. He managed a comfortable lead over Jay Schmidt in the second spot. Ricky Thornton Jr. was the hard charger in his 20RT machine, the Lucas Oil Late Model Champion diced his way through the field. Thornton passed 13 cars on his way to a podium finish. David Smith and Braden Richards rounded out the top five.
IMCA Sport Mods put on a banger of a show in the next A-main event. Ben Reierson checked out on the field early in the event. Reierson led the majority of the race and after a midway caution gave up the lead to Tyler Nerud on lap 13. Nerud ripped around the top and looked to be the hands down event winner. Trouble in turn two on the white flag lap reset the field for a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Nerud left the bottom open for Jake Sachau as they made contact coming to the white flag, surrendering the lead to Sachau. The former Super Nationals Champion held off a hard charge from Mike Smith to capture his first Harris Clash victory. Smith battled from the 8th starting spot to a runner up finish. Brayton Carter gained nine positions on his way to third. Nerud jumped the cushion in turn one after the white flag and fell back to 6th momentarily before getting back to 4th place at the checkers. Matt Avila finished out the top five.
IMCA Modifieds made their 34th Harris Clash appearance, this time at the famed high-bank speedway tucked away on Highway 30 in Boone, IA. Once the green flag unfurled, Ethan Braaksma took the lead from the outside of the front row in the three-wide formation. Braaksma would run and hide, and even after a caution period would do the same. Braaksma would cruise to a $4000 payday and a Harris Clash presented by Wehrs Machine victory. Tim Ward would finish in the second spot. Joel Rust clipped around the bottom after a restart to move up 11 spots for a podium. Jake McBirnie would find seven more spots for 4th and Beatrice, NE’s Jordan Grabouski worked from 20th to 5th the end of the race.
It was a fantastic night of racing presented by Wehrs Machine, Bob Harris Enterprises, and Fast Shafts.
